A family photoshoot at Buckeye Lake Winery turned into a completely unexpected surprise proposal.

Everything was planned in advance so she wouldn’t suspect anything. The couple arrived with family, and we started the session just like a normal family photoshoot.

After taking a few family photos, we asked the couple to step aside for some pictures together.

That was the signal.

The Surprise

We positioned them back-to-back as if it were simply another pose.

While she was facing away, he turned around and got down on one knee.

When she turned back toward him, she realized what was happening.

The sunset over Buckeye Lake, the surprise, and the reaction made the moment feel completely natural and cinematic.

Because everything had been planned beforehand, we were already in the perfect position to capture the proposal without giving anything away.

After she said yes, we continued with a short couples session around Buckeye Lake Winery.

Those first minutes after a proposal are always some of our favorite moments to photograph. The emotions are still completely real — laughing, hugging, looking at the ring, and realizing that a normal evening has suddenly become an engagement story.
